hello: I have 3 ball screws on shafts ( of different Diamaters ), with ball nuts. I would like to cut the shafts to lengths and turn the ends to accept bearings. ? . how do i remove the nuts ( and replace them ) without disturbing the bearings. * or should i leave the nuts on the shafts and try to secure them while i spin the shafts in a lathe at thousands of rpm's. thank you .. in advance for your help . |

| When I got my "NOOK" brand ball nut, it came with a small cardboard tube with an OD a little under the leadscrew's small diameter. It was kept in place with a plastic tie-band. All I had to do was slide the shaft inside the cardboard tube then start turning the leadscrew! The same worked in reverse when I needed to modify the leadscrew! Find a piece of pipe, or tubing that has a good outer diameter ! http://www.nookindustries.com/ball/BallGlossary.cfm Eric |

| widgitmaster so i would but a round peice of pipe, plastic or anything close to the small screw dia. up against the end of the of the shaft and unscrew the nut onto this round peice , then maybe black tape the nut onto it untill ready to re-insert . thanks for that tip. i will start with a clean junk free work area, perhaps with an old sheet down incase i go crazy and my balls fall out |
