Linear slides for z axis router
Hello, I'm new to the forum and have what I hope is the simplest of questions. I built a pin router where the router is used just like ones the z axis of a cnc machine. I am currently using Thomson 1/2" rails with pillow blocks and there is more play in the bearings than I would like (about .005" right at the bearing).
What I need is a rail system that will allow about 6" - 8" of free travel (no lead screw), and will support the weight of a standard woodworking router and mount, and will have very little play (maybe .002") when extended.
Would the standard THK SR20 type rails and blocks fit this need better than the Thomas round ones? If not, what would be the best approach and can I do it for a couple of hundred bucks?
Thanks.

Visit www.marchantdice.com/linear
Here you willfind quality ball bushing fitted into housings at a fraction of the normal cost. Look to buy the SC12WUU or SC16WUU housings, these come completely assembled with 2 bushings, this will prevent any axial movement
Here you can also purchase SK12 or SK16 Rail supports and send an enquiry for top quality carbon steel rail linear rail to Kevin; admin@marchantdice.com

Thomson Rail
I have a Thomson Twin Shaft Web rail that I may be willing to part with. It is two .5 inch rails welded with a web in the middle and the pillow block has 4 bearings in it. It is really strong and there is no detectable play at all. I have not checked it with an indicator yet, but the bearing is really tight. Look here http://www.danahermotion.com/PDFs/Ca...es_Section.pdf and it is a part number 2CA-08-OME-L24. Let me know if that is closer to what you want. I can send you pictures and such if interested. Stick with the SR20 rails....I would not use anything smaller.
