I went to one of the metal stores in town, they have a scrapheap corner were I use to source pretty nice alu pieces for bargains. I was digging parts in a bucket, turned around and stumpled on this complete portal!
Belt drive, rollers with complete air blowers, 2,5 m long (8.3 ').
The steel guides are rusty but they can be replaced with stainless dito's really cheap.
There are parts for A LOT of money, the Bosch Rexroth rollers are $300 each and now I have eight. Guess what I paid...

We used to be able to salvage at our local scrap yard... but there are too many liability concerns. So, it is no longer an option. I have been able to build a couple of nice machines mainly using junk I had found there. They would only charge by weight. So you could get a pretty good deal on stuff when they had it. Most plastics they just about give you free. I have gotten a lot of plexiglass for almost nothing. Sure it had scratches, but it was still better than having to buy it at a home center by a long shot.
I heard a couple of towns over they still allow salvaging, I will have to check it out sometime.
