    servo identification

    Hi everyone,just joined this forum ,very impressive! I found tis site looking for info,hope someone can help!!
    here's the deal;
    I have owned & operated a heavy duty diesel machine shop for 28 yrs.Never had any automated equipment. recently bought 2 Berco crank grinders at an auction that had been converted to partial automation. the machines are in really great condition,but didn't know what I was looking at when it came to the electronics,problem is most of it is missing,only have the servo motors & DRO's & electronic measuring devices,that connect to the DRO's,also the table & wheel head has futaba pulses scale on them.The other machine has the same ,plus a Cincinati-Milicron Acru-SizeII Model B,which I suppose is a controller interface,
    My fist question is about the motors,I cannot find info on them,they are:
    Vickers polymotor
    brushless servo motor
    Type FAS 2-180-016 00 02 02
    200V 1800rpm 3.0KW 10.5 amp
    I assumed they are 3Phase motors & hooked a .75 hp freq.converter to them & they worked
    for a start I would like to find out what type of signal do they send to a controller
    Thjanks in advance for your patience

    I believe vickers privte labeled Moog motors; look at Moog Inc to find specs maybe? I have specs on FAS-T2 & FAS-F2 series but not just plain 2. the ones I have specs on and have run with my brushless servo drives are PM brushless so synchronous motors and so require servo drives rather than vfd drives. we have tried running this type motor on plain v/hz vfd drives but being synchronous motors they stall instantly if you overload them.

    thanks

    thanks,Mike for the info!! I looked at Moog & it seems as that is the motors that I have. When I tried to find them on the net it said polymotor was Italian made & was bought by vickers in the late nineties & no more info could I find.
    since these motors run at basically no load,they might work with my drives,since there is little resistance on them. the ball screws on a crank grinder can be turned by hand ,very easy,not like a tool bit being fed into a piece of stock,thanks again & Im' sure I 'll have more questions later about getting everything running.
