Title says it all. I let the balls out on a ball nut. Couldn't find em all. SO I ordered some ball bearings from Mcmaster carr, and now put them into the ballscrew. Seems like it has a bit more resistance than it should is there a way to over fill these??? How many balls should have been in there? I filled the cavity around the screw until balls started coming up the other side, then I filled the cover race with balls and a thin coat of grease then I put them together. Maybe it the linear rail I over filled? Any suggestions?
No you cannot overfill it and still get the ball return tubes in place, and it is not critical that the raceways be right full. A gap of a ball or two is not going to hurt anything.
Roughness is typically due to having one or more balls caught in between the ball return tubes in the void zone where the ball would run up against the outside of a ball return tube and get stuck there until you reverse rotation, and it rolls around until it hits the outside of the other ball return tube.
Another cause of roughness could be one or more balls that are too big.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.
