    timing belts that don't cog

Are there timing belts that don't cog?

Do HTD belts cog less than trapezoidal toothed shaped belts?

    Thanks

I don't think you can be absolutely free of "cogging".

The newest belts, like Gates GT2 are about state of the art right now. They have a carbon fiber belt that doesn't stretch after initial run-in.

Be sure to use a pulley with matching grooves for the belt tooth profile.

AFAIK the GT2 is pretty much the same as the HPD and both have a miniscule amount of "cogging".
You will pay for them though.

Per Gates catalog "PowerGrip GT 2 belts must run in PowerGrip GT 2 sprockets. PowerGrip GT 2 belts are not compatible with PowerGrip HTD sprockets, or any other sprockets on the market."

HTD sprockets have greater clearance for the belt teeth. HTD teeth have a different profile than GT 2's which have little or no clearance. GT 2 teeth have an involute form similar to gear teeth, which makes for smoother engagement and disengagement with the sprocket.

Add: You may find Gates' belt/sprocket interchange brochure informative. It compares Gates belts to their own sprockets as well as others proprietary tooth forms.

I want to machine the pulleys myself I plan to have a form tool made to use on a fourth axis to index the number of teeth needed.
