Another question for my dual round-shaft assembly. What concerns arise with machining bearing housings (instead of using pillow blocks)? I assume the bore locations have to be spot-on. ±0.001" ? ±0.0005" ? I also assume the recess for the retaining ring is tricky/expensive to machine. Any shortcuts? thanks |

| i assume you are going to use open type bearings with support rail. H7 or J7 are pretty common for this type of housing bore. some housings have slot with thread on it so you can adjust the radial clearance. but it makes much more sense to just buy bearings as a set. if for some reason you are using unsupported shaft and closed bearing, using flanged bearing makes housing simple. you don't need much accuracy on bore and flange can be mounted with screws. |
