    Default DIY Linear Guide

    Hey Guys,

    im new here and just started to plan a small Desktop CNC for cutting Wood and maybe Alu.

    Im just in the early beginning and designed a Linear Guide. Can u guys tell me if this would work in every Axis of the CNC (X,Y,Z).
    It is made of steel and i would put two if this guide`s in every axis. Thanks

    Sorry, but it looks very complicated to assemble, and very weak. Unless you have a surplus a steel U-channel that you must use, I would copy the design of cncrouterparts for a cheap and easy setup. Another option is to watch ebay for linear rail/bearing deals. They come up all the time.

    Nice idea, but there are SO MANY things to go wrong.
    Buy some linear bearings instead. (You will eventually, anyhow.)

    Thx for the tipp with cncrouterparts. They look really nice and i could let them roll on a steel t channel. But i have to look how hard they to design for me. Maybe i could manage them

    I dont want to spent that much just on the bearings. And this would be cheap and i could adjust them exactly just pressing with screws on the thread between the ballbearings.
    And dp u guys really think this would be weak? It is steal with 4 and 5 mm thickness.

    One could argue that the bearings and the screw are EVERYTHING.
    But it's your call.

    Wont work.
    I tried it in 2004.

    It is not rigid enough, the bearings are not accurate enough, the surface is not flat enough, the axels bend.
    I used 42/15 mm bearings, with rated loads of 200 kg.

    A proper linear bearing is about 100x more rigid, with a load of about 2000-5000 (Hiwin W35-CC) kg, per block.

    I will work fine re: movement, but will not work well for cutting anything.
