Default Using KL5056 drivers and MACH3 trying to calibrate axis somethings wrong...

Ok.. converting my mini mill to CNC.. just got the X and y up and running and wanted to calibrate my axis. I have done lots of reading and used auto cal.. and I am stumped. .
Here is what I am running
    KL5056 drivers in 8 microsteps.
    Nema 23 276 Oz motors
    Cnc4pc C10 BOB
    C7 1605 Ballscrews
MACH 3 under win 7 32 bit os

So here is what I get..
    If I do the math..
    200×8×5.08 I get 8128...
I put that in the steps
I have DROS mounted as well and used a dial caliper to check movement

I tell MACH 3 move 1 inch and I get .189 of movement
So I then tried the auto calibrate function.
And it calculated 40000 some steps..
And I still don't get the 1 inch though I am closer.

    SOMETHING Just Seems Screwed up..
I have not changed drivers. . Could I have a bad driver..
    Or am I stupid. ..
Any advice or help is appreciated. .I have several months upgrading machine..
I have been using Hoss' plans..

    Thanks

I think you missed a step in your math. Should be 200x8x5.08x5=40640

    But I think it really should be 43005 .2/.189=1.0582 1.0582x40640 = 43005

    5.08*5=25.4 25.4 mm = 1 inch

Take a look at your Mach3 settings, make sure it's set for inch. Somewhere in your setup it's incorrect.

I assume your lead screw is 5.08mm pitch. That is exactly equal to 0.2 inch pitch. So 5 turns of the lead screw = 1 inch. So 1600 pulses per motor revolution x 5 = 8000 steps per inch.

I just tried a pulse per value of 43005 and Mach3 didn't complain.

I know I am set in inchs.. I have double checked that..
My lead screw is 5 mm so I have been told...
I guess I thought 5mm pitch to tpi was 5.08..

What if you shut Mach down and relaunch. .

I would confirm the leadscrew is 5mm lead. Rotate exactly 5 turns while measuring with an indicator, it will either move 0.984 (5mm pitch) or 1.000 (0.2 pitch)

Sure, shut down and relaunch and see what happens. Can't hurt anything.

Well I know these are C7 1605 leads screws .. chinese..
So how do you verify one rotation. .
Do you mark your motor coupler to count rotations. .
    I don't have a hand crank anymore..

Marking the coupling would work. You are going to be turning by hand (power off of course), so any way you can get a reliable witness mark will work.

    8128 is the right number.
Make sure your native units are set to inches. If it is, close and restart Mach3.
Then, make sure your in inch (G20) mode.

If it's not working, delete the .xml file and start over with a clean .xml

Check the micro stepping setting on the driver too

OK so here is what I found out. .I set my driver to 2 mucrosteps...
And used auto call in Mach3..
It came up with a number of 20k..
And it was within .005 of being right..
    Then I went to 4 microsteps ..
Did the auto cal.. and it went to 50k steps..
And this was also within .002
    And it was consistent. .
I have spoken with the company I bought my ballscrews from and they are 5mm pitch.

I have checked Mach3 all looks right..
Do these numbers not seem high?
