    Default End bearing installation

    Hi,

I am just starting off building Z-axis for precise movements in micron range. But I have some questions....
How do I secure the lead screw (ACME 8mm) using end bearings? Frame will be built around the linear actuator.
Also will the flexible coupling enough to transfer rotary motion?
Do I have to provide any ball bearing near the Stepper motor?

    Thanks in advance...

The bearings in the stepper are not designed to take substantial thrust loads. Also you'll get positional errors from your helical coupler flexing under load. You'd want to have the ends of your screw machined to fit standard fixed end and free end bearing blocks. If you decide NOT to use bearing blocks, then you should use a solid coupling to minimize axial play.

I will use two bearing blocks, one after flexible coupling and the other at the free end... It should work right?
