Question about auto tuning a DM556 drive
Hi,
When you auto tune DM556 or other Leadshine drive, I understand that you need to flip SW4 from up to down and back to up within a second.
- Before you flip sw4, what should be the positions of the other switches?
- After tuning, can I use the other switches to set current and microsteps?
- After tuning, can I also use SW4 to set idle current?
- Do I need pro tuner software running and the COM cable connected ?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Question about auto tuning a DM556 drive
Hi Allen,
Thanks for the response.
I do have the user manual, and it was not very clear.
However, I played with the switches, and have answered my own questions.
Here is what I did, and it seems to work fine.
1. set the switches for microstep and current as needed, flip SW4 off to enable idle current reduction.
2. connect motor and power up.
3. Flip sw4 on and off fast.
The motor makes some noise for just a second or so, and it is done.
I an very pleased with the performance of the DM556. The motor runs very smoothly, and the drive barely heats up running the motor at 2.3A RMS from a 40V PSU.
After 30 minutes of running, the drive heat sink gets to 92F from an ambient of 75F, and the motor gets to about 120F.
Daya.
