Unhappy No Beam

Hi everyone,

I hope it's OK to post here but I could really do with some advice.

I have the LS6040 (similar if not the same as the rabbit hx6040). When I send a job through to the machine it has literally been going through the motions but there is no beam at all.

I have replaced the micro switch under the lid and also the flow switch has been replaced (I have also swapped the tube as I thought the original was at fault) but it's still the same, can anyone give me any pointers as to what else I need to look at?

Thanks in advance guys.

Is the cooling fan turning on your power supply? Maybe the PS went bad on you. I just mention that because it happened to me a couple of years ago when my machine was new.

That's about the extent of my technical knowledge. lol

Hi
Check all the wire connections on the tube and on the power supply.
Is the power meter moving?
It could be a problem with mirror alignment. So put a small disc of wood on the first mirror nearest the tube. Fire the laser briefly. If there is a burn mark, the laser tube is working and you need to align your mirrors.
If there isn't a burn mark there is either a problem with a connection or the laser power supply (which is different to the machine power supply)

geekinesis is right,if there is no obvious wrong you should do like this to see which parts is wrong. We have a manual on how to check the problems that usually happen. If anyone need it, can write a email to me for it.my email is kevinliutrade@gmail.com

Hi,
I can tell you there is definately no beam I have placed the disc in front of the tube at the 1st mirror and def nothing the tube doesn't even light up. Connection looks good. Which leaves the laser power supply can you confirm to me where that is??

Thanks for your answers guys.

Kazaa, the laser power supply probably looks like this.

When mine went bad I had no beam, and also the cooling fan inside the power supply stopped turning while the power was turned on. The laser head would still move as if it was cutting or engraving, but no beam.

Hi
Well - I had a feeling that was it - sooooo we checked this and guess what the fan isn't working we checked the fuse in there and it's fine and not blown.

One other thing I have noticed though is that when you open the side of the machine (above where the laser power supply is) where all the "circuit boards" are is that most of the boards have green lights on them (they are either on constant or flashing) except for one board that has a red light on it - I can't say I've noticed it before but then again I haven't been looking for it if you know what I mean.

I'll try to get a photo of it and add it here if anyone knows what I'm taliking about can they confirm if this is right or not.

As for the fan I obviously need to do something about this.

Glad you found the problem!

I know a couple of other laser owners that have had the same problem and it was a thermistor inside the power supply. They actually replaced it and that fixed the problem. They are cheap parts, less than US$2.00 and you just need to remove the old one and solder in the new one.

I wouldn't worry about the red light right now it may be normal. My panel has one red light on all the time also.

Hi Skip - well I've been onto my machine supplier and I'll wait and see if he agrees I hope it's gonna be as simple as that (fingers crossed).

Here's a photo of the red light I was mentioning before - it's not great but you can see the reflection of the red light on the bottom left - maybe it's OK, I'm not sure, but would like to think it's in relation to the fan problem.

I would think that your machine supplier is going to want to sell you a new power supply instead of helping you repair yours, but you can always fix the old one later and have it for a spare.

Good luck!
