Problem- rabbit hx3040 engraves fine but wont cut without locking up

I have been cutting and engraving with the machine using newlydraw without problems, but for some reason now when I try and cut the head moves slightly and then locks up and wont respond to newlydraw until I switch the machine off and on again, but as soon as I start to cut it locks up again.
Engraving still works without problems, and I can set the machine to its xy position etc, its just locking up when cutting.

any ideas?

Have you tried re-installing the software?

I would also check you have the correct driver and settings, and try a lower cut speed. The other thing to try would be a different cable from PC to machine.

Thanks, sounds like a good plan. I will try another computer tomorrow and install from scratch then try with a different cable.

ok I reinstalled the software on another machine.

Everything works now.

I think I have worked out the problem. In newlydraw 1.0 , when you go to the file/engrave dialogue box there is a button "prop" where you set speeds etc. At the moment my speed is set to 50mm/s which is fine. When I set the speed any higher the laser machine locks. So I am guessing 50 is the highest I can go on my machine? Not that I need to go higher.

Its not completely clear to me at the moment where to set the speed, there seem to be several places in the settings

I am impressed with the quality of the cut on paper. When everything is set properly, I can get a good clean cut in thin card with no scorching and an almost invisible brown edge on the card.

The only other problem is with the pot controlling the power. At the lower end it seems to be very sensitive and jump to different amp levels. its hard to set a consistent low power each time I come back to a job. (which is why I was setting the speed higher instead of lowering the amps)
