I need to cut thousands of stator laminations from 0.04mm thick 40mm wide MetGlass tape, http://www.metglas.com/faq/?faq_id=1 What type of Laser is the best for and what is power range I need ? Cheers, Herbert P.S. Is it very stupid idea to buy some Chinese 60W CO2 Laser engraver and rebuild it for ???  |

| Herbert, Providing the 1,000's you need are the same I would suggest a pressure/heat process (injection molding) or die cutting rather than a laser. It is difficult to say how much power will be required since it is an alloy. I do not believe you will cut it with a 60W CO2 laser, in fact I suspect you will need several hundred watts. Nd:YAG would probably be a much better option, or a diode laser. I could be completely wrong here as I am not familiar with this material. Zax. |
