I asked that question myself a month or two ago. Never did get an answer. I've got 5.0 and there is a bug in that version where if you uncheck the "Auto Datum" (home) check box in the machine options, you have to change the start speed parameters or else you can't send files to the laser without the software crashing.

Maybe that is one of the bugs that are fixed in 5.1 but I don't know for sure. That's the only problem I've ran into with 5.0, other than the 2bit (black and white only) bitmaps. Sure would be nice if they came out with a version that would do 8bit grayscale like most other laser engravers.

Thanks for that - I am only running my machine remotely with the USB stick, so I havent had your issue with it - maybe later. Hopefully there is someone in China who knows what the differences are?

Just a thought about your bug - maybe you should check that your start speed is less than your datum speed and or equal to the constant speed. I had an instance when I was getting started that I had my cutting speed less that the constant speed and the machine would just not run. When I took my start and constant speeds down below the figure it was fine - as I say just a thought?

It's fixed. When it happened, I emailed WK Laser about it and they had me change the start speed and that corrected the problem

I had to drop the traverse start speed down to 8. Now when I traverse the laser head, it starts out at 8 (slow) and after a few seconds it speeds up.
That actually works well for fine tuning the head position when needed.

I've been looking online to see if I could find out who actually makes the LaserCut software and to see if they had a website. I can't find anything. I have even asked WK Laser if they knew what the difference was between version 5.0 and 5.1. I didn't get any reply. Must be a state secret or something.

Hi,
The first difference between 5.0 and 5.1 is you will need a different dongle .
The two do not like to run on the same p.c as they corrupt each other. the 5.1 looks better and still has some issues it is ment to take corel x3 but I cant confirm this.
The main advantage is the output isw on the main screen allowing you to select and adjust without too much messing about.
If you want us to try somthing I will for you to see if it works.
Thanks Chris
Oh you also have to upgrade firmware to allow the main board to run with it.#
Thanks

Thanks for the update - I was a bit reluctant to upgrade and I am glad I waited - Its a bit of a problem to get a new dongle though - I will have to investigate - Are you able to post a screen shot of the page where the changes to the software are or wouldnt we notice any difference?

Have a look at:
http://www.step-servo.com/english/le...page/first.asp

'Cant see anywhere there to get Lasercut, but they do have manuals for it, and make the controller boards that Lasercut runs on.

If you look through their web site they claim to be the developers of lasercut - I have emailed them, probably have as much chance of a reply as Australia winning this weekend

Luis
