Question Rabbit Settings

Hello everyone!

I' ve been trying to get my 80 Watt chinese laser up and running for a while now but still cant figure out the settings. The settings (speed, power,PPI) for us is totally different than the settings on most US made lasers. Does anybody have something on these chinese lasers settings? The info. that came with it is bogus and doesnt make any sense.

Ive been trying to do some images on granite and they are not coming out as great as the ones you guys post. Will my laser be able to images the same quality? Should I get Photograv? Or is it just me and my settings?

Thanks,

The settings on the Rabbit laser are:

Power 0 - 100 %
Speed 0 - 800 mm per second (depends on your machine max)
Scan Gap (equivilent of resolution) - in fractions of mm. defines distance laser head moves in y direction between each scan.

I convert the standard DPI (150 200 250 300 600) to scan gap and keep a chart handy, Scan gap = 25.4/DPI If you know the DPI and want the scan gap).

Also, on most materials you will find you will not be able to run at max speed when engraving...power limitation will define max speed in practice.

The manuals are a bit cryptic but you will find that if you spend a bit of time reading them they have a lot of useful info. If you are still having problems after that, simply email Rabbit, they are very responsive and have answered all my questions.

The manual translations are a bit rough but I think "bogus" may be a bit harsh.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info,

Do you happen to have any images (pics) on things that you have laser engrave on your rabbit? I am trying to engrave on marble and having a rought time with the final product. I'll try again with different settings.

Thanks,

I'm don't have any on this computer..will see if I can dig some up. I did find however in tests that you have to make sure you are getting power in the whitest parts. If the speed is too high, there may not be enough laser power in the parts that require the most power. Slow it down and reduce power first to do tests. Then speed it up and see when the laser drops out in those parts..that is your max speed for the laser. I created a test strip with different percentages of grey..10 30 60 80 for example and ran different speeds and powers. Also, the scan gap may be too close..widen it out. If it's too close, the dark spots between spots will be fractured away and leave no resolution.
