Redsail Laser printing help...

Hello Guys

In october, I purchased a 40watt laser unit from Redsail laser in Ca. The machine is EXCELLENT for cutting acrylic using a plotter file BUT when I go to etch a BMP or JPG file, the machine etches the pic with an "italic" appearance It prints exactly like printing an italic font or something. The picture seems to have a drift to it. No matter how many lines I print or how detailed the pic is, it always comes out with the italic look. If I etch a plotter file, it comes out much better with a slight stagger in small areas. I've checked the belt tensions thinking this was the culprit but to no avail... Has anyone with a laser machine experienced this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Brenon

Leo Shi Tel: +1-416-4419834 For the life of me I can not figure out why a so called trusted company is using free e-mail accounts. I hope you do not have as much trouble with your machine as I have. I got my one back in August last year and it has worked a total of 20 days. if I could help I would but since my machine is setting idle There is nothing I can do. Want to buy another one for parts? Cheap. I have the 3040A

What is wrong with your mach? Are you the person that had trouble with your high voltage supply which originated from an (unnoticed) broken tube?
Shipping the unit probably wouldn't even be worth the hassle and value of the parts (left that are good) Have you considered a chargeback on your purchasing account? If you received a unit that was bad, I sure would have... That is why I required Paypal in my purchase so that if something wasn't working when it arrived, I would not lose my money.

Overall, it's a good machine if all you want to do is cut. I cut 1/8" acrylic in 2 passes from a plotter file BUT if I try to "engrave" a bitmap like they SWEAR you can do, it looks like it's an italic bmp! I have written to Leo before and gotten pretty good responses but I feel as though he's not educated enough to answer technical questions and such. I'm not too concerned anyways, I've got a cnc milling engraver/router on the way that WILL do the job that I wanted in the first place. I'm just going to use this one for cutting which it does WONDERFULLY

Yes I am the same person and it is still setting in my shop usless as ever. I sent the money via wire transfer . I wish I had used a credit card. It is going to cost around $200 to fix this machine, so it is on the back burner for now. good luck with your trouble.

I am sorry that I have been sick for almost 3 months, and still be sick. I have written to you, please check. For the RS3040A, it can both engrave and cut with a good result. I hope we can fix the problem very soon.

Update...

To begin with, I was told to "Earth" the unit by Redsail so I got to looking... ...should explain what I seen...

I did "earth" the unit and to my surprise, the main power converter is NOT grounded to earth from the 110. This may be ok over the pond but a BIG here in the US. Needless to say, I brought that up to standard.

Then I went on to "earth" the machine...
Earth means simply the SHORTEST route to GROUND. This I did and the Y motor stop sensors stopped working, this tells me that there is an improperly filtered or open ground in that circuit probably in the PCB design it's self so I disconnected the earth knowing that it will NOT solve my before mentioned problem with printing. I then began looking very closely at the circuitry and stepper driver circuits, all there is ok. There was a jumper connector to jump several circuits from one board to another and this plug on the secondary side was HALFWAY PLUGGED IN. This is only SLOPPY manufacturing in my opinion, Sorry Leo but SOMEONE NEEDS TO SPEAK TO THE PERSONNEL IN MANUFACTURING ABOUT A QUALITY ASSEMBLY JOB. I feel that since I paid a lot of money for a product, it SHOULD BE ASSEMBLED IN A QUALITY ENVIRONMENT. If most of the machines have the same version PCBs that mine do, earthing WILL cause erractic problems in the 5volt circuitry. Be aware...

This should be taken to heart in China, you could have an EXCELLENT machine worth MUCH MORE than what I paid for it only IF:

#1 and FOREMOST- Control your quality and inspections CAREFULLY.
#2 Do away with the TROUBLESOME "keydog" that is needed to operate the software / use a product key instead.
...and #3 Upgrade the software to be more END USER FRIENDLY, NOT programmer friendly.

:edit: Forgot to mention that my machine is lasing BETTER now in the engraving mode than the cutting which is to be EXPECTED. All is accurate.

I still think the company should provide a replacment machine. Disgruntled owners. I have yet to hear really good reviews of their machines.
