Synrad CNC setup

Hi guys, newbie to lasers here and a I have a couple of questions I'd like to run past you.

I have a Synrad G48 that is on a CNC gantry setup to cut fabric. I have all of the components in a disassembled state (laser head, UC-1000 controller, SPL250 power supply, Arrick MD-2 CNC controller, water pump and a suction pump.

I bypassed the safety switch, manually opened the beam shield and powered the unit up in manual mode - zap! It scorched the block I put in place to safely deal with the beam. So it looks like I have a working system, most excellent.

Question 1 - No computer came with the setup, what software will drive the Arrick MD-2 controller? What OS will I need to put on the PC? I know there can be issues with parallel ports, what should I look for?

Question 2 - The laser head is clearly marked 30W but the manuals online for the Synrad G48-1 series specify that it is a 10W unit...?

That is it for now, I have a lot of work ahead of me to get this back into fully functioning condition.
