Melco Laser Retrofit

I ended up with a pallet of used Melco Laser engravers, with some brand new laser tubes and other assorted parts. They are pretty old, but in good shape. From what I was told, the cards only work in Windows 98 machines.

The servos are Clifton Precision JDTH-2250-G2-1C. They appear to be a standard 4 wire encoder, 4 wire motor servo.

I've built two CNC routers, so I have some experience here, but not with servos. My question is pretty simple, would it be better to try and retrofit this with stepper motors, or are there inexpensive servo controllers out there that would work?

Are you sure they are servos and not steppers?

I assumed they were servos as they have the encoders on the back. I guess I could unplug a motor and touch all the leads together and if it still turns, it's a servo?

I guess I wasn't being clear. I want to scrap the current motor controllers and convert it to using mach3. Not sure if I should either convert to stepper motors or add servo controllers and use the current motors.

I would either try to get em to work as delivered or part them out for spares , Retrofitting a different motion system is not that viable. You would really need a new motherboard , a new lcd panel , stepper drivers , stepper motors , possibly a new power supply , pulleys , belts ,proximity switches etc. Would be cheaper to buy a Cheap chinese machine without tube and PS and retrofit the RF tubes.
