Hi all Just got a HX40a from a friend who aquired 2 of them, tring to get them both to work. It had no manuals with them and was wondering if anyone has a copy they would scan. Also the transformer says that it is 220 volt. Need to either get a step up Transformer and need to know how many amps (watts) does the Transformer need to be or another way to get 220 volts to it. A lot of the wires are broke from bad soldering, but other wise looks complete. Any way to convert this to 110 volt so that the outlets in back would run with the 110 volt waterpump and exhaust? Kinda hate to invest a lot into it before I know if it works or not. Thanks

I should have a copy of the manual somewhere, although it's pretty much useless (about 4 pages of poorly translated Chinese). You can find better information from the various manufacturers websites, or check the resellers as they have videos explaning the basics (in English). The laser is 220V but supplied with a step-up transformer so you can run it from a standard 110V outlet. Most have a 220V pump and fan provided with them that plug in the back (which are usually 220V outputs, but often use standard US sockets). I just plug the fan/pump in to the wall, which is actually a better solution but you need to ensure the pump is running before powering the tube - I suggest an interlock to make sure. It isn't cheap to change over to 110V as you'll need to replace the laser PSU (some do have a 110/22V selector but most don't) as well as other mods. Zax.

I watched a 31 minute video of one getting unpacked and plugged in ect. Kinda figured the manual would be useless, I'll have to look for a step up transformer. Any idea of the size that I will need? Or a place to get one? Really didnt want to stick a lot of cash into it before I know if it is working or not. Do you like yours? Need something to pace the long winters with. Thanks

AC 220V TO 110V CONVERTERS Transformer type, STEP UP STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER , EUROPEAN PLUG, CONVERT 110 VOLTS TO 220 VOLTS have step-up transformers, or you can get them on ebay too 110 220 step up transformer items - Get great deals on Electronics, Business Industrial items on eBay.com! I would check the input fuse and rate based on that, so if there is a short the fuse blows before the transformer melts down. I think it was about 1kW but can check later if needed. It's a great little machine - more for engraving than anything but you can certainly cut acrylic, wood and other materials too (think 1/8"). Zax.
