Cutting 1/4" Stainless

I'm using a 2000W Mitsubishi laser cutter to cut through 1/4" T304 Stainless and am having a lot of problems with dross adhesion to the back side of my parts. I have increased and decreased my gas flow rate and have re-centered the nozzle over and over again but to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestions to get these to cut better?

Thanks.

I've done a limited amount of cutting on 0.050" stainless with a 150 W laser. I had some problems with dross on the back side as well. It sounds like you have only played with the gas flow. Can you adjust the power of your laser? You can change how fast you are going. Playing around with all three can get you better results. You just have to dial it in for your machine. What gas are you using?

I've read some suggestions of coating the back side of the material with milk of magnesia to prevent adhesion.

Cool Dross

I have a 1600W 3015HC located in Paris MO 660 327 4263. Sounds like a too slow feed rate, or your Power is Hot. If you see pockets in the kerf, I have learned that the gas pressure (I call, "blow") is too high. The metal is molten in the middle before bottom is punched and the high pressure creates a mess in the middle.

On mine, I think I was pushing the limits at 3/8" on steel, so I just threw a nice wide nozzle on the plasma cnc and it made an awesome cut.

Nozzle diameter: Toy with that too.

Gasses: Use dry shop air in the meantime for experimenting. Save some $$

Hope it works out for ya.

Z

If you'd like to be ripped off by a used machinery dealer or would like to buy a cheap low quality part for your machine - follow the thread.
