hello all, i am looking for some info on a machine, which machine to use, capable of doing the following. also, a ballpark $ figure. the parts i will be making are 1" dia main body. they will have company name going roughly 1/3 around the dia and be 2 lines high. letters would be roughly 3/32 tall. parts will be up to 4" long, if this matters. there will also be a 'cap' of 1.125" dia with numbering the whole way around 1 line high 3/32 tall. all parts will be made of 303 stainless steel. i have searched and searched and can not find anything that pertains to my situation. all info and help greatly appreciated. i can post pics if needed for better idea. thanks in advance outkaste |

| Are you wanting a machine that will engrave on the product you described, or are you looking for someone to do the engraving, and Yeah I think photos would help. If I understand right you want to do this on stainless steel. That leads to a bunch of questions, do you actually want depth to the letters cut? If so you're looking at mega bucks for a machine, YAG or ND lasers from my understanding are the cheapest route for that, and you're probably looking in the ballpark of $60K and up. But if you just want the lettering on there, and don't care about letter depth you can do that with a smaller CO2 laser with a rotary attachment and a product called cermark or thermark. Next question is how many do you need done, and in what time frame? If you outsource you can probably get it done quicker, once you figure, ordering a machine, waiting for it to be delivered, work out the kinks, learn the software and actually produce a product can easily be 4-6 months. |

| i would like a machine myself. the company name and the dial markings on the cap would be the same all of the time. but, each product will have other markings because each piece is actually custom and distinct per customer. the depth of the lettering would not matter as long as the 'surface burn?' did not wear off easily. otherwise, it might be an issue. there would be at least 250 of each part done at one time with the custom designation markings done before final shipping. here is a pic that was done with a roll stamp. this is another product that would also need to be engraved. i will by either or but not both pieces. the roll stamp with would cost roughly $8K plus with all the proper dies. the roll stamp is very easy to use but not near as clean or nice looking and it's uses are very limited. as for time, i do have a little leeway. i am still working on product and other cost. trying to see if this is possible. would you have an idea of price for a co2 laser and rotary table? where might i be able to see video and get more info on one? i really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. outkaste |

| Best way for you is something like chinese NdYag laser with rotary. Will be easy, fast, reliable, suitable for all materials, longlasting. Possible solution is CO2 and lasering using rotary and special chemicals like Litoscript/Cermark/Thermark. Equipment is cheaper but process is more complicated. |
