Pewter - can it be Laser engraved?

Hi All,
First post so be kind

Anyway, have a nephew that needs a hip flask engraved for a gift. I haven't engraved on Pewter before, have done stainless. Is the procedure the same. Do I need to spray it with Cermark spray?

Any suggestions would be grateful, Thanks.

Yes it will work with Cermark but it will take a lot more power than stainless. I have a 30 watt laser, 80 ips, and mark stainless with 100% power, 10% speed. I don't recall exactly what I used for pewter, but I think it was 5% or less speed. I would recommend figuring out a way to hold it in place so you can apply the Cermark, laser it, wipe with a damp cloth and, if necessary, reapply Cermark and laser again. The only thing lasering with too much power will do is make the mark grayish/tan in color. You could reapply and laser again with less power and it will darken up.

I too have a 30 watt Laser (Epilog). I would hate to muck it up and can't really test on anything (unless we had two), but thanks.

If the flask is original pewter, laser engraver can do engraving on it directly. you need to spray a cover on the flask, then to finish the engraving.
