Lag over max
I run a CNC knee mill when powering up I press the servo button
then trying to move in any axis I get the message lag over max and no response from table movement
can anyone enlighten me on what the problem is.

Excessive following error
First thing to do is isolate the problem. It's either mechanical or electrical. In my experience it's usually a mechanical problem. Disconnect the drive motor by removing a belt or coupling and make sure the table moves freely. You should be able to turn the screw by hand from the motor connection. Mke sure the motor spins OK with the brake off.
If your machine has an encoder on the motor it's something in the drive or motor, maybe the brake is defective.
If there is a scale that gives position feedback it could be a loose connection, loose scale, or dirty scale.
If your machine has identical drives and motors on another axis you can swap out components to see if the problem moves to identify a faulty component.
Log your check in case you need service, so they don't need to duplicate your efforts (at $90 per hour). While you're in there start writing down the different components of the system.
This should give you someplace to start.

Thanks for that mfgbydesign,my machine works with encoders on motors
and this problem occurs on all 3 axis so is it more likely to be electrical fault
perhaps non of the servos are being activated.
