I bought a Supermax YCM-40 mill as a project to rebuild and convert to MACH 3. Well I have the mill mostly disassembled and when I went to take apart the spindle the end cap was locked on. I got it to move maybe a quarter turn and it locked up. I got pretty rough with it using a three foot pipe wrench with a two foot pipe on the handle and heat, it was locked on there. My only option was to machine it off in the lathe. I got it out with out touching the spindle or quill and the threads looked smashed together in one spot. I cleaned the quill threads up some,I think they will be ok. I contacted YCM about parts and the quill and cap are both not offered anymore but, they did give me a drawing for them. So first off anyone have suggestions on where to source a used quill cap or quill and cap? Anyone parting out a YCM 40mill? I can make the cap but I don't have a lathe that will cut metric threads so if I can't locate a used one I will have to get creative with the threads.
I appreciate any help on finding the part or other suggestions.
Thanks Jim
