    Default HM50-Similar CNC Conversion

    Hello !!!

    First of all, sorry my english!!!

    I will start a new conversion and wanna your opinions !!!

    I decided to make the Z axis in the quill because i see a big squareness error (0.3mm) in the table !!

    In this machine i wanna to put linear encoders and make a "Stall detection"(maybe a auto ballscrew pit correction) for the step motors with linux CNC.

    I'd be quite interested in this myself, as I have pretty much the same, clone, mill and have toyed with the idea of converting it.

    I did a test machining, aluminum 54mm outside diameter with an end mill 10 mm, measured on a CMM with a scanning probe, and the results pleased me so much .HM50-Similar CNC Conversion-circularidade-jpg

    Hi Eneias, I am new to this forum and I have see all your work and your videos, as I am intrested to transform my 7550 knee mill as yours...if I could be able to do it of course... Could you please give me some more infos about the work that you did in your ballscrews and how did you put them inside your machine table? Is it possible to have also some infos regarding the quill transformation and how did you stabilesed it, as my quill have 0.05mm of free play when stays on top and 0.10mm of free play when goes on full bottom at 120mm down...

    I also see that you have use LinuxCnc and now you have the degree orientation of your spindle, so I would like to ask you how did you control your spindle in that way and what kind of equipment and motor you have put on your machine? Is it possible to describe me the procedure to do it myself?

    Here is how my table is inside and my relative backlash, thanks in advance!!!

    The quill problem i've "solved" with linear guide in both sides of quill . i used 20mm guides with no preload , i think that, a 30mm guide with preload is better.

    My motor spindle is the original of machine with a normal VFD (WEG CFW10) ! I just put a encoder :

    And via Gcode i read the encoder position with the M66 (in Hal file i have linked the encoder position to signal Analog in 0)

    the program to orient spindle is like this (Exemple for 45 degrees) :

    G4P0.001
    O1ENDWHILE
    M5
    O<ORIENT>ENDSUB

    As soon as possible i will upload my config files and the original suroutine for orient spindle.

    Hi Eneias, thank you very much for the pics! Have you choose the 2005 or the 2505 ballscrews? Is it possible to have a pic of the front side of your Y axis mounting? Did you measure the tollerances now? Thank you very much!

    I choose 2005 with preload, zero backlash..

    I will do better!!! the archives are in solid works 2014.

    Well done! I open all your files with a free reader and I saw that you have put also the spindle encoder! You have really made a perfect work! As final question, I would like to ask you if are strongs enough the two linear guides on the both sides of the quill and if they can handle the heavy X-Y axial loads when you do milling operations on steels, thanks and compliments for your project!!!

    The linear guides are not strong enough !!! is better than nothing but not enough. in the last file (para trava z.zip) you can see what i do to "solve" (maybe 90%) the problem,

    I think that if you instead 20mm linear guide install a 30mm with preload , maybe will enough.
