Kitamura Mysenter 1 problems

Hello, new to this forum and to CNC machines. I have just received a Kitamura Mycenter 1 last week (approx. 1985 unit) and it has opperated fine untill yesterday. It started to just stop opperation in the middle of a task. I would then shut the unit down and re-start it and it would work fine for one to two parts the repeat the stopping. Well it has gotten worse,, Upon pushing (P) (CAN) (start button) there is a load noise like a breaker switching on/off. I look into the panel and there are 3 big blocks of switch board on the panel door,, the one in the center will luminate a red light while the other 2 are green. Now the spindle wont even turn. But the X Y etc. (spindle goes up & down, table goes back and forth but wont even perform work. Again I am new to CNC milling machines so I hope you can understand what it is I am trying to say. Any and all help would be great. I have spent $1000.00 on the machine when I got it, replacing the ram seals etc. and hope this wont be another expensive step. Thanks

HI:

I notice that this forum isn't active in the way other metal working sites are.

Go to Practical Machinist and PM Dual Kit. He's a friend of mine and has a Kitamura. I am disappointed with the fact that this board doesn't possess the responsiveness that so many other boards have.

I am more novice than you and cannot help directly.

Good luck. If it's not too much trouble, please post what the problem was.

Thanks.

Jon

I have a Kitamura Mycenter 1 as well (Yasnac Controls) - a little newer than yours... I don't know the solution to your problem, but I will say that on my machine, if the spindle stalls for whatever reason (being pushed too hard, etc.), even after you clear the alarm, the spindle will not repower until you turn the machine off and on again (while you can move the axes without turning it off).

By the way, you can call Kitamura directly and they will help you over the phone - it doesn't matter that you didn't buy the machine from them and it doesn't matter that the machine is old and that you aren't under a service contract. They will do the best they can over the phone for free.

You'll get it running soon enough. They're great machines.

Hummmmm that's weird. I have a Mycenter with Fanuc. I'm not to familiar with the older machines. Is there any alarms displayed on the CRT screen? Or in the tool pot number? Does the problem happed durring a tool change? Also on the spindle board there should be a small LCD screen with numbers, it will also display problems. If you have Fanuc controls call Fanuc there more involved with the NC side and drives.

To clarify what Eric means about alarms being displayed in the tool pot number (at least this is the case on my machine which has Yasnac controls), if there is an alarm, when you push the alarm button (the button which looks like an indicator light), the alarm number displays in the two digit display normally used for the tool pot number. This is different from the alarms that display on the CRT screen.

Usually if the alarm is on the machine side the alarm is displayed on in the tool pot LCD. If the alarm is on the NC side (electronics i.e. controller) the alarm displays on the CRT screen. There should be an alarm code somewhere either NC side or machine side. Without knowing the alarm number it's hard to debug the problem. The big blocks you are describing sound like relay contacts, they usually run subsystems like hydraulics, coolant pumps, way lube pump, tool change motor exedra.

Kitamura

So how and where do I find the alarm code? How many digits are there? Or does it say alarm code? So upon finding it, what do I do with it. Sorry, but I am very green at this. Any and all help is great.....

I’ll snap some quick pictures today. Did you get the user and service manuals? If so look in the manual check out alarms. There should be a columns “Alarm Number” followed by “Actions” then “Remedies”. Without knowing the alarm numbers one could thumb through the “Actions”. Be sure to read your manuals there are procedures that out line break-in’s and machine maintenance exedra.
