    kcam4 and pminmo l297-unipolar contr.

    hello,
I build two cnc machines one is 2,5 m by 1,5m wood router and other is 4,5meters by 2,5 meters plasma router.both work with kcam4(demo) and pminmo l297 unipolar controler and they work excelent!i also try a mach3 but i am more satisfied with kcam ,it is easier to control, more stable and less confusing.mach3 is faster ,smoother(litle) but has very bad(miserable), user interface and bad ploting-view of tool path.kcam4 also have some problems but they are easier to solve.the pminmo l297unipolar driver work excelent in half step mode, smooth, without any misssteps or other problems.i use 3amps 3nm steppers on wood router and 4amps 8nm on bigger machine and my fets(irf640) get only slighty worm.
so i recomend kcam4 to all new cnc builders becouse it is much easier to work with it.mach3 is very fast ,smooth but with that preview off toolpath i dont like it.
soon i will post some pictures and video off working machine.
ps.excelent job pminmo and kelly, thanks!

Congratulations on getting things working nicely. Can you give some more details such as what Power Supply you are using with the pminmo controller, what IPMs are you getting out of your setup and did you say that you are using irf640!!! did you do any changes to the unipolar board or not.

    cheers

power suplly 49v dc,200ipm travel speed, only change i made is transistor stabilisator after the 49volt power suplly to reduce it to 25 volt for 7805 3pin regulator for board logic.choper works great only litle heating on fets(off course with heat sink,3cm by 4cm 3mm alluminium plate for each fet).fet irf 640 work great, total gate charge:55nc,gate sourse 10nc,gate drain 21nc.
irf 540:total gate charge 72nc gate source 11nc,gate drain 32nc so irf640 need less current to turn it on,but you MUST use hct series ic's and not wire wound resistors for current sensing(0,1-0,2 ohm)

I used KCAm but it is best suited for beginer. Currently i am using MACH3 and my machine run faster twice as compare to KCAM.
