Was seriously considering a K2 5" travel Z axis. Not so sure now. Would appreciate other's thoughts and experiences.
I've not had the best responses from their customer service, however. When i first ordered the part, i asked for a dxf of the back plate and received some random drawing. I replied asking for more detail and received no reply.
Reasonably rugged construction, wide variety of mounts available, comes with a home switch.
I mounted a 2HP router and tried to run at the rated 100 ipm rapids. Is 100 ipm a no-load rating ? Squealing on direction changes and black dust from the nut mechanism. Dropped rapids to 80 ipm, oiled the nut and put lithium grease on the screw. Result was much less squeal but the grease was turning black in the nut area, not confidence inspiring. When rapids were set below 70 ipm it seemed to worked well. It never made the bad bearing noises seen/heard in post #1, then again it has less than an hour of use.
I've been saving it for a low speed application but $150 plus shipping takes it away.
Anyone who says "It only goes together one way" has no imagination.
Screech........(chalkboard sound) lol. I'll have to post a pic of what I had a friend do to my Z axis. Got rid of those rods and put some nice linear bearings on it. I never had that awful sound, but it did have some play when drilling holes. It was just not very strong at all.
Hope you did get it taken care of though.
Here's a couple quick phone shots. CFORCHT is to thank for making and installing the beefed up axis!
Here is a youtube link on a short video of my Z axis.
