    4 Axis Gecko 203v with 570 OZ Motors what PSU Help

    I'm starting a 4x4 build and I'm going all out 3 1/4 porter, with gecko 203s and 570 motors. But I've run into an issue what PSU should I use for those drivers and motors?

    Is this one big enough

    I'm eyeing this one KL- 7220 Specification: $189/pcs
    Unregulated Power Supply 1440W, 72VDC/20A ,120VAC or
    230VAC

    This is the one area I'm not really sure about. I'm not really too worried about the price just want to make sure I have enough power and a little head room.

    Please post the Motor Amps, inductance, and qty used.

    If you wire the motors parallel, you want a 48Volt supply, and about 4 amps per motor will give you a little headroom. Parallel will give the best performance.

    All of the power supplies that you list are too large for those motors. The motors best voltage is around 49 volts. The Keling KL-5020 should be fine.

    Jerry & CR are right!!!

    Here are the calculations so you can verify your assumptions.
    Current: 5A x 4 motors=20A x .67% =13.4A
    Vmax(Motor)=(SQ RT of Inductance) x 32=1.516 x 32= 48.53Vmax.

    In some cases the Pwr Supply Capacitors may not be sufficient for your application.
    so check total Cap, against this formula.

    Capacitor Selection:C=(80000. x 13.4A)/48.53V = 22089uF

    I should have mentioned that, (Because steppers at rest are drawing current and this lowers the output voltage somewhat.) with three or four motors connected--NO individual motor will receive more than 48V from the 50V power supply.

    Resurrecting....So to drive the Green Monster stepper from Probotix with Gecko 203's, I'll need an 83V power supply ?

    6.8mH inductance

    Yep, that's correct. If I recall correctly, the motors Probotix sells have rather high inductance. This is because they are low current motors to work with their lower current drives.
    The best performing motors have high current and low inductance.

    Im looking into Joe's 4x4. Have not bought plans yet. I want to get the electronics chosen and built first.
    Would like to use the Gecko 203 drivers and have a 48VDC 15amp P/S.

    Any recommendations on motors ?

    You haven't said anything about how you are going to drive the axes so this could change but generally you can probably use a G540 controller, 270 oz N23 motors for X and Y, a 387 oz motor for Z and a 48V 7.3A power supply.
