A good diy cable management is something that we all need. I look forward to seeing some ideas.

i would use carpet tape to hold the sheet down.

Cable chain are DIY per this thread :

very cheap to built , but time consuming , i had to put screws for some covers as they were not tight enough .

all sides and bottom are glued !!! made of black pvc !!!

Love the cable chain, i made some from that post and it makes life so much easier and makes our machines look alot more professional and just make them look cooler. :-)

Keep up the great work.

Ok now the gantry anti racking system installed !!!!

cable is between the bottom of the bed and the bottom gantry torsion box , friend of mine did the pulleys in aluminium on his lathe , cable is 1/16 and crossing in the middle of the bed , this way you see nothing outside the machine , now racking is nearly impossible !!!!

next thing to do is replaced the dust skirt , it is too soft now, so the vacuum pulls it up and 3/4 of the dust go away !!!!

then i may have to put angle on the gantry sides cause even if i did it with 2 layers of 3/4 mfd it seems to bend a bit !!!!

and last thing will have to install something to protect the X tubes , to keep them clean while cutting !!!!

Hi guys here some Aluminium engraving result, in small size for a big machine !!

the first try was done at 60 IPM, for size comparision i put a penny aside (CDN same size as USA)

second try at 15 IPM

i'm using 8 tpi double start with dumpster ab nut !!!!

really happy with the result considering the size !!!!

That is really cool, the small stuff, and very encouraging, since some of what I hope to do with my Joe2006 will be needing cuts on this scale. I've already decided to just skip straight ahead on mine to the Dumpster nuts and the 8tpi double start screws from McMaster rather than the basic ones listed in the manual.

Even the little bit of chattering I see is virtually invisible once you consider the scale of the picture. (I actually held a penny up to my screen, and realized that the bottom pic is at 300% size.)

Now, my one question is, what exactly is the benefit of the gantry anti-racking system? Is is to create tension on the gantry to prevent any torque slop forwards and backwards as the gantry slides left to right? i.e, preventing one side of the gantry from getting ahead of the other side, creating a skewed X axis curve along the Y-axis?

Exactely !!!! it insure that X and Y stay at 90 degre .
