Feelin' pretty stupid

Hey,
This is an awesome forum. So is the Yahoo group.
There is an immense amount of great information stored here.... and that's kind of the problem.

I am now executing my own Joe 2006 machine (I have the Z-box finished & painted & the gantry arm that goes through the z-box), and am trying to incorporate all of the knowledge from those much smarter and more experienced than I.

Retrieving the info is somewhat difficult (or am I missing something)... for example, I notice in the picures that a lot of folks have added two lengths of threaded rod (1/4-20) to the gantry assembly, for stiffness, that do not appear in the original drawings... I can not find the post that describes this addition.... It is mentioned in one of the threads that there is a 'tips and tricks' thread... but I can not find this.... It is probably my own stupidity that is preventing me from finding and using this info... but can someone please steer me in the right direction?

Would it be beneficial to create a 'tips and tricks' thread, if one does not already exist? (The only posting for 'mods' in the yahoo group is the dumpster anti-backlash nuts)...

Also - Joe, I have been cutting out parts using my RockCliff machine (Cobbled together with plywood and brass bearings!) with some good reliability, as long as I keep my speeds under 10 IPM (yeah, I know, I grow older every time I try to cut something out).... without any real problems... everything fits together nice and tight and more importantly, assemblies appear to mate up well without having to redrill..... Just one problem to report, though. I had a bolt-hole matchup problem between the Router back-plate and the HDPE 'bearing' on the Z-Axis... all of the bolts lined up except for the bolts coming in through the HDPE brackets (4 of them) - Had to redrill them in the HDPE using the wood part as a template. I also had to use low profile nuts on the back of the U-Bolts and smaller washers in order to make it all fit. I am using the STEP files and Mastercam 9 to generate code.... Am I doing something wrong? Everything else lines up perfectly.

Anyways, thanks for creating a quality machine and thanks to all the members for providing such great info and experience!!!

Regards,

Bruce

I felt the same confusion and frustration as I built my Joe's 2006... (which should be actually moving under its own power next week... as soon as I get home from this damned trade show that I am stuck at for four days...)

I considered starting a Joe's 2006 Wiki.... which would be categorized, and searchable..... I may still do it.

Does anybody else feel the need (or the willingness to help) ?????

-Taylor

What a great idea! - We could also cross index from the Wiki back into these forums, for specifics on a particular subject.

Thanks to HayTay for the link!

Regards,

Bruce

I agree that it is an excellent idea. I'm sure we've all put hours and hours into this machine so we know it pretty much inside and out. I would be willing to draft up some dimensions, or make complete lists of parts, or build overview, or a complete set of instructions for assembly utilizing all the techniques that we have all agreed are the best.

So if you need my help, shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to spend a good amount of time on this project.
