Congratulation and welcome. If you want to see a thread with lots of details and an index to make things easy to search, check out my thread. It is located under built complete r&p section. Bgriggs is also my screen name.

Folks would like to hear about both. Your choice though.

Ok, I'll get my thoughts together and post in the support forum. Will more likely be my experiences from looking for Australia builds but may include some overalls too....

Wanting

But i have a few questions before i do. I hope this is the place to ask!! what is the difference in Joes model 2006 and the joes model 4X4 is it the size of the machine? also trying to find a good link to elaing the differnce between Rack and Pinion and leadscrew. I want to cut oak, maple about 3/4-1 inch stock i want to have the larger bed to have a table to cut many parts in one layout table. Any info would be great thanks

The difference is in the cutting area of the 2 machines and the construction technique. The 2006 is roughly 2ft by 4ft and the Hybrid is approx 4ft by 4ft. The Joes 2006 is a machine built primarily from MDF and can be built with simple tools if you are careful with your work. There are many people that have built the 2006 and several build threads here on CNCZone. The Hybrid is a newer model and is probably a little more robust (rigid) with a larger cutting area. The 2006 is driven with lead screws (threaded rod driving a threaded nut) while the Hybrid is rack and pinion which is basically a toothed round gear running along a toothed linear rail. The teeth mesh and that is what provides the moving force and accuracy. Cost of construction is also a difference with the larger size and more robust construction making the Hybrid more expensive to build.

Either machine is capable of cutting the oak or maple.

I would recommend you read thru a couple of the build threads to get a more detailed idea of how each machine is built.

Good Luck
Don

thanks for the response to my ?

I was begining to think that i was posting incorrectly here. If you were to build a machine 4x8 in size what Joe Design should i order. Your opinion would help me out i want to start building ASAP.

And would you build it with a rack and pinion or leadscrew. I would eventuly like to build with some 3d programing. accuracy between .005 is all i really need i would think. I have a solid metal table 3x8 And would like to build on top of this. If you recall any good links for this design that would get me to a good place to start reading. I want to order some plans buy the end of the day!

Thank you

Buy me a Beer?

The 2006 can not be built to a 4x8 size.

If you want to build the Hybrid on a table, the design will need to be modified I think.
A 4x8 hybrid should be rack and pinion.

Build the hybrid. It can be built on top of your existing table provided that it is Square and can be drilled into. There is no contest between the two designs. The Hybrid is the way to go.

I built the hybrid and quickly found I needed a full 4x8. I added on to the basic design with ease just by adding on a few more pieces. The design is that good.

Then the access to the hundred plus build logs is what makes it all go so well.
