    Which motors and drivers?

I'm building a Joe's 2006, slightly modifies to use some parts I already have on hand. I'm looking at the HobbyCNC 305 oz/in combination and also at the Keling 425 oz/in. combo.

I'm not opposed to soldering together the HobbyCNC board but I'm thinking that the Keeling deal is better overall. It seems like it would be a system that I could move into pretty much any wood cutting machine I might build in the future. Plus I think having separate drivers with a breakout board seems like a better idea overall.

I have an EasyCNC board right now that is driving a foam cutting machine that I built but it only goes to 2.5 amps and I think I'll need more power for the Joe's.

What do you think overall? I'm a big believer in buying tools that hurt when you buy them but not every time you use them. For the extra $ it seems like the Keeling combo is the right move but I don't want it to be crazy overkill either.

    Thanks in advance,

If you want to get something for the future, get a Gecko G540 package with 381oz motors. It should outperform the Keling package. The 425oz motors are high inductance, and don't perfrom as well as the 381oz motors at higher speeds.

    Gerry,

Thanks for the reply. Are these the motors you're referencing? NEMA 23 Stepper Motor: KL23H2100-35-4B

I was kind of coming to the g540 conclusion today as well. Keling has them on sale for $50 less than Gecko has them on there site too. I'll probably pull the trigger on the g540 tonight. I'm hoping to have my build done in another week or so.

    Thanks again for the reply.

    Gerry,

Will a 24v 20amp power supply power the g540 and 3 of the 381 oz/in motors? I already have a Mean Well SP-500-24 power supply.
