I am looking for some advise to get me going.

I am building a small shop CNC. A 36"x60" table, 60"-x 36"-y 6"-z. Rack & pinion x & y, lead screw - z. I have rough calculation that the gantry will be 100-120lbs. The x & y will be v-track guides while the z will be linear guide. I would like to set the design up with a 1.75 hp bosch router in mind. (I already have it) Construction will be of steel and alum. The machine will be primarily used for small signs and the occasional desire to mill aluminum.

I have aprox $1200 to invest. Not including software. Is this enough?

1) Motors:
There is so much biased info out there I have had a difficult time sorting through it. The balance is cost and value. I would like to use servo motors they boast of higher resolution but more expensive. is it worth it?

2) Motor Size:
What is a good size for my table size with 1.75 router? 600–800 oz/in? Or will a 400 oz/in work?

3) Driver/Controllers:
What makes a great driver and does this affect which software I choose? Everyone says gecko, but is there a quality DIY kit avail? I would like to see a motor & driver cost me $150, is this doable? It there a combo driver and motor on the same board that is a reasonable price?

4) Supplier:
What are a few sites you might recommend for me to hold to so I don't get taken by high prices?

thanks for your time.
