gas pipe or hot/cold water pipe?

    Hello everyone,
I am slowly getting parts together for my first JGRO Router. The local home depot has gas pipe that is painted black or hot/cold water pipe that has no paint on it. looks like a better surface. Would it be ok to use the hot/cold water pipes?

Water pipe probably has been galvanized. Over time it will start to flake off. Most people use the gas pipe and sand/polish the paint off of it.

What about the quality of pipe. If I bought some galvanized pipe and took a small amount off with a lathe, would that suffice??

    Thanks
