sounds like your washers are to big in diameter, the washers outer diameter can be bigger than the bearings outer race, you need to tighten against the inner race or else the nuts will loosen when changing directions
OK, my machine is about done and I'm jogging it across the table and getting real close to cutting actual wood. Not so fast! Why are my 1/2-10 acme nuts walking away from the bearings on the x and y axis slowly? How does everyone have their nuts setup? (man that sounds bad) I've placed 2 nuts and 1 washer on each side of a bearing (so each axis has 4 nuts and 2 washers). Do you tighten the nuts against each other? Against the washer? Seems like I've missed something crucial here!
Thanks!

if your using two nuts on each side, than cut small diameter on one side of the nut that is slightly smaller than the bearings outer race and dont use washers
Thanks for the info. I think I may have solved it by tightening the 2 nuts against each other when their in the right spot next to the bearing(not applying too much pressure on the bearings).
