new jgro pictures and more questions

ok i have new pictures and some questions

    1. for the cutting table how do u cut the groove things in it? all the groove things i've been using my table saw but the cutting table is a little to big to fit on my table saw.

    2. for the router clamps is 1/2" cutting board good enough to make them or does it have to be thicker? i dont have anymore scrap pieces of mdf think someone threw them out lol

    3. would it be easier to make my own controller board and everything i need forthe motors and all? i know all the stuff is pretty expensive and i dont have that much money or maybe i can get one for cheap somewhere.

the pictures are of everything almost put together the measurments were kinda off so i had to cut a little off everything dont know if that will make a difference when i get everything going?

    Here goes:

    1. The grooves in the cutting table can be done with a router if your table saw won't do, other than that, you can either make holes with T nuts inserted from the underside, or do like i did and use some grooved slot wall MDF, or at least i think that's what it's called, take a look: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/attach...8&d=1177735329

    2. I'm thinking it's possible if you design it right, but i'd advise caution cause i wouldn't be comfortable with it for myself doing it.

    3. This i think would be a matter of choice for you, but my advise for the best buy for your budgeting dollar would be the hobbycnc kit as long as you have no objection to soldering your own board, it's a great kit that has everything except for the transformer, great documentation and a fantastic support group.

    4. I'm not too sure if you are fully familiar with using this forum since i see you are creating a number of new threads lately, you might be clicking on "New Thread" by mistake, try this:

I just noticed something, are those the pipes you are going to be using on the long axis? they don't look like the right size, you will need them to be or you will have a bit of a problem with flex and/or sag.

ty for the reply tajord i was going to use those pipes i think there 3'4" what size should i use? i had some trouble with my adjustment blocks i drilled and tapped them but the threads were stripping so i filed all of them so i could stick nuts in them and jb welded them in place they seem to be working now....the only problem i have is when the gantry moves the bearings go off the pipe and i dont know if thats cause i need to adjust the pipes some more or beacause the holes on the angle iron are off? everything else seems to be going good hope i get it all fixed and running soon

If it's not bent significantly, just use it as is. I'm thinking that it will work with a little bendage. In actual use, its supported at about 46 inches. During use, it will conform to the gantry's movements. That's my experience. What's the diameter.

Looking at your X axis, I think those bearings will have trouble with side loading. They will wear out. Looks like a perfect place to put v-bearings. Also, you are going to see some up loading. What are you going to do to prevent that?

    Antony,
Side loading is.... well look at your third picture above. The angle iron looks like it trying to split the dual bearings, correct? Its a wedge, the weight of the gantry is pushing down, and the angles are going to TRY to split the dual bearings. That splitting geometry is going to impart a side load on those bearings. Your bearings are just like mine, they are cheap, 50 cent (maybe $1.50) bearings. They will take a big radial load but the side load won't last long, they will soon die. That's my prediction.

Go here for vee bearings. You won't need dual bears either. Just one. But you might need to sharpen the angle some.
