New Build

Hi everyone,,

Ive been lurking around for some time now reading just about every post on this forum. I'm not even up and running yet and I'm already addicted.
I'm gonna jump in and get my first build underway soon and my plan and goal is as follows.

Ultimately I need a good degree of accuracy and think that Joes 2006 will give me exactly what I want. Problem being that I dont yet have a machine to cut the parts and the cost of shipping a kit here (I'm in South Africa) from USA will just cost too much. So my plan is to build the JGRO and then use that to build the second one. Seems there are quite a few people who have done that. I've ordered 269oz steppers and a Gecko controller (Only heard good things about it). I already have a 45 volt 10Amp supply. I will be using the second build to cut mainly fibreglass and carbon fibre sheeting up to approx 6mm thick and occasionally 3/4 MDF.I hope my choice of steppers and controller is a good one.
Could someone recommend a router. Got a huge Metabo at the moment but I would need a 4 Stroke engine on the Z axis to raise and lower this brute. Havent had much luck searching for routers to use on the Joes 2006.
Any comments and advise would be greatly appreciated.
When the build does commence I will be sure to post a build log and lots of pictures. Really looking forward to it. By the way is there anyone else in SA who has built either of these machines?

Thanks in advance

good luck.. double check measurement on last page of plans and detail pages as to some measurements are wrong (first lines of material list.. I think the glued mdf should be 32 or 32.5 not 16.5). good luck!

Thanks for the tip EMCLLC. I'll double check all measurements before I make the first cut

I've got a JGRO about 90 percent done. The measurement is 32.5 inches. I, too would like to use this macine to build another.

I think it would be cheaper to ship a Joe2006 kit to South Africa than to build a JGRO for the sole purpose of using it to build a 2006 but I think the experience gained from building the JGRO will be invaluable to ensuring a successful build of the 2006.

I totally agree with you there, i don't think you can put a price on that, any updates?

Hi Impi 62

I am also building a Jgro machine here in South Africa.I haven't cut any of the wood yet, but will cut it on a Cnc Router with a 3m x 2m cutting table that I operate at work.Whereabout are you in SA, im in Cape Town, I can cut the parts for you at R300 per hour.Let me know how your build progresses, Im sure we can help each other with parts sourcing etc.Good luck with your build.

Edmond
