I have a bunch of the other build threads. The more I read the more I get confused. I'm looking for direction. I thought about doing it all by the plan and then changing out the rods but why spend the money if I want it changed anyway.
I started a jgro build. Hobbycnc pro 3 axis board with 305 steppers. The board is finished and I have started some of the mdf parts. I want to go with 1/2-10 acme rod. My questions are- What do I not need to build? Like the backlash block, ect. What do I need to purchase to make the acme work properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have access to a mil and lathe. Thanks.

You have options on all the parts that screw into the acme rod and it all depends on whether you want to make parts or buy them. Lets break it down.
Lead nuts
Couplers
Regular nuts (to secure the lead screw to the bearing)
All these parts can be made but much easier to buy. You can take a spare piece of acme screw and turn it into a tap to make your lead nuts or you can do the melting method. 1/2-10 nuts are cheap with many sources like ebay. Couplers, I'd buy these. If you have the money I'd buy dumpster. Excellent stuff. If you go that route get multi-start acme instead.
If you need more I can take a few pictures of how I attached my lead screw to my jgro.
