Bushy's JGRO Build

HELLO CNCZONE

I’ve joined the forum to learn from experience and I have… Just recently saved enough money for everything … I am building a JGRO.

DAY 1 - My first pieces to build are the Torsion Beds.

So I printed out a cutout diagram using CUTLIST.zip. Always double check the sizes before printing. I went to Home Depot and had them cut the large bed tops and (10)1-1/4” & (10)2-1/2” x 48” lengths. I can cut to size on miter saw.

Welcome to the 'zone!

The JGRO was my first (and only so far) router too. It's a pretty good beginner design. Fairly easy to fabricate.

I think several folks on here have suggested adding a skin to the bottom of the bed's torsion box to make it a real box. I built mine per the plans with the bottom open, and it'll eventually start to sag a bit...

Have fun!

DAY 2 - Bushy's JGRO Build

DAY 2 - Go Shopping, Finish Second Torsion Bed.

So I printed out a 3/4" MDF cutout diagram using CUTLIST. I went to Home Depot and had them cut the top bed, bed ends and various size lengths. I can cut to size on miter saw, again. Next I went to Lowes for Hardware, Screws, Bolts and Nuts... Slightly cheaper and they had the Aluminum Angles. NOTE... I will be using 5/16-18 Threaded Rod.

I had to Order a Number of Stuff from Online...
Hitachi M12VC 2-1/4 HP Router, T-Tracks, Delrin Sheet, HDPE Sheet and bearings.

I had Ordered and Received the Electronics Package from FINELINEAUTOMATION. Very well Price and Super Fast Shipping. Thanks Nate.

Looking good so far. Build it well and it will serve you a long time. Make sure to give it a good paint job as well.

DAY 3 - Bushy's JGRO Build

Day 3 - Cut lengths to size for all 3/4 MDF on Miter Saw.... No Problem.

I started working with the drill press to cut the 1-1/2" holes in the 1-1/2" glued together MDF pieces for the bed end and PROBLEM.... My motor burned out on my 1/2 HP Drill press.

Time to go shopping again for a new Drill press and not by choice.... That $15 drill press was great and cut hundreds of pieces

Broken Drill Press

I managed to borrow an old 2/3 hp drill press... I want to get this build done.

I will probably rebuild my old McGraw Edison 1/2 HP Drill Press Later, After the build.

Day 15 or so??? - Assembly

I lost count of how many days I have been machining parts but everything is cut. I'm sorry for not taking photos during the whole process, I never remember my camera.

I started assembling today and I can't believe how strong this material is bolted together.

Finally Connected and NEED HELP

The Machine is hooked up... I'm Running EMC2 on a Dual Processor 1.8 Ghz MB w/ 512 MB of RAM. I bought a gecko G540 and motors from FINELINE Automation.

I have several issues I need HELP with

1. How do you get the Charge Pump to work in the ON Position?
I couldn't get this possible solution to work
Does anyone have a profile for EMC2 w/ the Gecko g540 attached to the JGRO?

2. My 5/16" Screw rods keep loosening at the bearing ends... How do I fix this?

3. The Y axis may be on a slight pitch from one side to the other, can this hurt the motor? How should I fix this?

4.
Where do you have your limit switches?

5.
How did you hang your wires?

Some pics to help.

These pics show the rod locked in from both sides of the bearing attached to the machine. The bearing of the motor does not support the lead screw.
Use locknuts, they are a brute to go on but they won't back off.
