if its just foaming out of the top drill the top fitting for a 1/4 NPT then screw in a barbed nipple. take some clear plastic tubing and run it up towards your motor. basically you make a taller vent stack and no more oil dripping down the side of the machine. also i am a really big fan of using ATF in the gear head, i think it works great and foams alot less than the spindle lube or whatever is in the head.

Runner, That was already done when my machine came from the factory. It is leaking out the bottom not the top. Thanks

I have been having the same problem. Tommy told me to disconnect the ground and that did not help. I am not sure as to what to do next. I have been trying to get ahold of tommy for 2 weeks now. I am not familiar with the above possible fixes. Can anybody elaborate for me in laymans terms. The machine also leaks oil and grease like crazy from the z axis. Tommy says do not worry bout I am getting tired of ruining parts and clothes. Any suggestions? the machine only has 10-15 hours of run time on it. Thanks in advance
After reading these posts i am looking at NOT buying a IH Mill. Perhaps the Novokon is a better unit. Being not a wealthy Guy when I read about someone NOT being able to contact Tommy for 2 weeks? I guess they want youre money and thats that .Glad i found this posting. Novokon has a outstanding reputation from what i have heard.

I have never gotten the impression that IH does business that way. Everything I have ever read about them is that IH is a stand up company. However I did read in another post that there was a death in the family recently. They are a small operation so that can throw things off the rails for a few months.

I found this amusing:

"I'd like to add a probe to my recently deliverd NM-135 and take advantage of the G31 code in Mach 3. I've tried numerous e-mails and phone calls to Novakon for help, all to no avail. Hopefully I can get better results here."

what happens is when you attach grounds and shields to multiple points you create ground loops. also the long shield wires tend to act like antennas and attract stray signals to them there by making the noise problem worse. when you ground everything to a common ground the noise some of it cancels itself and some of it can be dissipated to the ground in the electrical connector.

ideally you want to minimize the ground loops and connect all your grounds together. in the mean time you can bump the debounce up in mach 3 to try and hide most of it.
When I built my Hobby CNC Pro board I joined all of the grounds together. This caused problems due to sharing the same ground as the computer thru the parallel port. It caused many false triggering issues. I am a novice in all aspects of this hobby but I did learn this the hard way. I would further your research before connecting all grounds to a chassis ground. I was thorough in using sheilded wire, connected them all to a chassis ground etc. I dont run caps, I run very little debounce if any and nothing worked correctly til I isolated my controller from my pc. Good Luck. This hobby causes lots of late night reading. BTW the icon beating his head was a mistake. I hadnt ever used those and didnt realize they were posting.

I grounded my system per the voltage of the circuit involved. I have 4 different voltages to deal with. 5v pc & a 5v supply , 12v & 24v vfd & spindle board, and the big 77v supply. I had noise up the wazoo till I did the grounding of the negative terminals of all the different areas which were to the different boards. On the parallel ports board, I set a grnd from a grnd to the panel. On the spindle board, I set a grnd from 5v grnd to panel and also the 12v grnd to panel. Maybe I should go look to be sure I am saying this correct, but the point is that this is the one and only thing that made my system perfectly quiet and reliable and now I can really run the machine.
to clarify a little, I used an unused neg terminal from each system as well as the boards grnd point if it had one. and this worked.
Now, as I understand it, a ground has a neg potential equal to the voltage of that circuit. So If you join two grnds of different potential then you have a ground fault ! The potential of the higher voltage will influence the lower potential and cause havoc to arise to the point of possible destruction of vital components. I am not an expert, so this may need to be further clarified but it is reasonably close to accurate. I hope !
Chassis grnd should be grnd'd to earth and as such should be considered earth grnd. This is where you want the noise potential to go to, direct path to Hell !

Bob ? Did I say this correctly ?
