Way covers.

Hi, anyone here know where to get IH sized way covers? mainly for the Y axis. (and maybe something for the top of the Z just to keep dust out)

Mainly im looking for bellows.. but Id be intrested in any other options.. I have even considered making my own.. but not quite sure what materials to use besides maybe some fabric with aluminum foil tape ontop to provide a chip barrier.

Bellows

Have you ever been to Mcmaster.com.......over 480,000 products with
an incredible search engine, I cant believe the amount of hardware, tools
etc,etc on this site!!! I dont quite understand exactly what covers you need
but I entered bellows in the search and many examples came up. I use this
site often, they have detailed drawings of most the items on the site, including drawings of small screws etc. Dont stop at searching bellows, try
way covers or anything else you can think of. I purchased some way wipers
recently, they are great quality.....Goodluck....Jim

mcmaster

I know what you mean, ....a real pain in the.... I am lucky enough to know
one of there well established Canadian customers that they still sell to, I
just get them to purchase for me. I cant believe that with way the economy is that someone would turn away customers that pay cash up front with a
credit card............oh well

mcmaster got fined $8000 or something for shiping to 8 people on 'international watch lists' (post 9/11 export laws yadayada) (mainly to people in the middle east) And thats when they stoped shiping to any outside countrys

That aside, anyone know any Canadian sources for bellow way covers?
And way wipers?

also when using way wipers on a _\--------/_ dovetail kinda way, should I bother puting wipers on the upside down dovetail part? or will gravity keep it clean?

Blackmoon....

I know you mentioned that you wanted bellow style covers, so do I but I decided to go with a tip I got from my pal Art. I went down to Home Depot and bought some black rubber ribbed carpet runner. It is about the same as the factory covers on my Lathemaster mill and $12.00 bought enough to make a replacement cover for the Y axis to the column and I also made a kinda drape that goes on underneath the Z axis slide to cover the ballscrew behind there. When I made the Y axis one I made it considerably wider than the stock one and it seems to work very well. The stuff is very slightly thinner than the factory stock but is kinda reinforced in the back and that roll will probably allow me to replace the covers several times before I need to buy a new roll... I even put a piece on my knee mill to replace the worn covers on that machine too... just a thought man....peace

McMaster does ship to Canada. I just got a whole crap load of stuff from them last week. Not to mention that they are the fastest and most well organized supplier I've ever had.

The trick is, you need to register with them as a business, then there's no problem at all.

fatal: When did you register with them? Afaik they say 'we will not ship to canada except for select long established customers'

Could you give detailed information on how to go about registering as a business? (without legaly being a business)

awsome, I did'nt know it was made outta 1 peice fabric, I though the sides had to be glued on or something, that video (after a few links, found http://www.ixen-cnc.com/2007/10/lead...line-mill.html ) was great. shows all the folding directions in simple to understand format.
