the xy table extensions are two aluminum blocks that space out the drive mechanisms of the x and y axis to try and retain the full travel of the mill or increase it slightly. i have both on mine and the added space has been a benefit in larger applications.

I've read your threads and get lots of information. I'm looking for a milling machine with bigger work envelope for home workshop. Knee mill is too heavy. Maybe ZAY series is a better choice.

I have an IH manual mill. I'm just trying to imagine those blocks-- are they to move the IH CNC kit's axis motor/belt assembly because the assembly's flange interferes with the table travel beyond when the saddle is flush with either the table or base?

In fact I'm in China, so I can't get them both, IH mill/kit. I shall get a ZAY mill with 1000mm×240mm table. And make my own parts for CNC conversion. I've already found servos, drives, Turcite, etc. It will be a great machine for my hobby when the job done, I suppose. Now I have SIEG C3 & X2, lovely little machines but too small. The problem is: What Continuous Stall Torque and Peak Torque the servos should have?

The table can go further until the handwheel nearly contact the saddle. So the assembly's flange should be spaced out to achieve the max travel. Just like Runner said.

dreadnought, the size of servo is always the question for these machines. its a delicate balance of cost vs perforamnce. you don't want to oversize but you definitely don't want to undersize. ultimately in order to get good results on these machines you need havea fair amount of torque so you can get all the gibbs nice and snug.
