    IH or Tormach?

I am looking for a cnc mill, with optionaly 4th axis rotary. I already have the computer, software, etc. I just need the mill and cnc controller box ready to run and just plug into the computer.

How do these two mills compare and what are the price points each is at?

On the 30th it sounded like you had decided on a Taig:

Harbor Freight discontinued the KX1 and KX3 cnc mills..

Did that change? If so, it might help if you could describe your machining experience, CNC objectives and put a range to your budget.

I think that both IH and Tormach have full pricing details on their respective web sites.

    I have purchased Novakon NM-200.
IH put a lot of effort into their product.
    I have seen their activity.

But Large table XYZ and looks like very well design is Novakon
IH stays for high accuracy and servos. Well With all respect that I have to IH

I have made deal of less money spend and potentially if not equal than better in certain areas performance.

I wish you the best IH
Do not forget. Losing customers by lack of communication does not work the best for you even if you have relay nice crew and quality of your work.

I've been comparing IH, Tormach, Syil, and Novakon for nearly a year now. If you read through the 4 machine forums, you find scary things like sand in gearboxes, burned up spindle bearings, etc.... in most of them, but you don't see that for Tormach. There is more to a machine that just a larger work envelope. That is of no benefit if the machine is down. I also considered the number of available accessories, areas of development, etc....

All were a factor in my choice. Tormach.

I have a IH (manual mill now CNC) and after a year of messing with it and having the Z column have non parallel ways and the slow spindle speed I would say if you don't have to have the larger table go for the Tormach.

I should get my Novakon NM-200 next week so I will take good look on it.
I have another mill with DRO X45 concept. I will be able to compare both.
    IH use X45 concept.
It looks like Smithys that uses the same cast iron as Novakon both of them have much longer longitudinal support for XY axis
That explains the difference between IH and Novakon NM-200
And that is why bigger table will work well or possibly better than with IH.

    As far as tormach.
Well , the statement 2 post up stays that” If you do not need bigger table than Tormach is OK”
    At the same token
you may say” If you do not need table of Tormach Than Sherline is OK”
Than we come to nonsenses statement “That If the size of table is not that important than do not buy machine at all”

    Bottom line is:
Servos are more superior than Steppers.
Servos require belt and pulley steppers not
IH does have servos but Novacon has new cast iron body and therefor can support bigger table.

And what is so special in Tormach? Support?
Nice sales people and tech support?
That ends up with your warranty.
Than you have to pay for that nice help like with everyone else.

I 'd better make myself to the point that support is not as much needed and I become independent as much as I can.
I stay for Novakon but I will be in touch.
