    Motor swap

    Here's what we have so far;
    3 hp Baldor VM3559T, shaft turned to D80, keyway opened up and just a bit of a tussle with the adapter plate when I realized the bolt circle for the motor and the bolt circle for mounting on the mill shaded each other.

    The chrome spacers are from True Value, button head Allen bolts hold the plate to the motor in a countersink and the bolts to mount all on the mill must be inserted before the plate is bolted to the motor.
    Yes, the extra holes in the plate were a dimensional screwup.

    Got a Hitachi SJ200-022NFU2 on order.

    What's the hex piece on the spindle all about?

    Nice work! Have you done any heavy cutting with it yet? Edit: I guess you are waiting on the VFD to power it up.

    The hex is the head of a draw bar Aaron sent me a couple of years ago. Never asked him why it's so long and I've no need to cut it down so....maybe some day I'll run short of hex stock

    Yup, I'm itching to get the VFD and fire this baby up!

    This looks very similar to the plate that i built for mine. i posted it here not so long ago. although i use a 3hp 56c mount baldor motor. the 3hp really wakes this machine up especially when run at the 3400 rpm max as opposed to the 1700 from the factory.

    Qsimdo,
    Good job on that motor. I sure would like to get a higher speed motor one of these days. Would be nice for aluminum!

    Indeed, Mr. Mopar, yours was inspiration for the project as I got the motor under the best of circumstances; CHEAP!
    It was off a dust collector.
    B5 flange? We don't need no steenkin' B5 flange!
    I think I will need to build some form of chip screen now though.
    3400 rpm,eh?
    Oh yeah...

    awesome, glad i could help. i really don't know why more people don't use these standard motors that are more readily available. i got my 3 hp 3phase 3400 rpm motor off ebay for $50 with a 56c face mount.
