Hi Shepard;
Call me tomorrow night (Sunday) about 9 pm EST and we'll go over what you did and see if we can fix your problem over the phone.
I was unravelling the wires from around my machine, IH CNC, and put the Y axis encoder wire on the X axis. The X ran away and hasn't worked since. The motor still spins, I swapped the geckos and it's still good, wiring and encoder seem fine. The motor won't even lock up. Powered up I can turn the axis by hand. It will make feeble, itermittant attempts to lock up and the gecko will fault out. I tweeked the gecko adjustments till I can see them with my eyes closed.
Any help is appreciated, Shepard

I'll venture a bet that the axis bottomed out HARD and you smoked the motor ! ! I smoked mine by going through the limit switch then absent mindedly bumping the axis the wrong direction ! ouch !

You are exactly correct. I thought the motor was still good but was wrong. I came across a nema 34 servo for a song that only needed a couple flange holes to be opened up to bolt on to our IH bracket. I'm waiting for the timing pulley to get here and should be up and running.
