i haven't measured mine but its a heck of lot faster than the original 1725 rpm motor. my new motor was 3450 RPM, so everything should be exactly twice. one thing i don't like about the faster motor is that the gears have backlash and when this motor turns on sometimes it slams the gears if all the slack is not taken up. everything is holding up fine, but i do worry about longevity. although i do plan on building a belt driven spindle for it soon anyway.

Runner - I was mostly interested in the observed spindle speed after slip loses and gearing. Observed vs. what is written on the placard. (Not that I mistrust those who wrote it... however given the grammar it would not hurt to check ![]() I have gave the gear backlash much consideration. Have you considered configuring the VFD to start and stop at a slower rate? Say, accelerate to maximum over five seconds or so. Perhaps then the impact of starting would be even less than with the standard motor? Greatly looking forward to seeing how you build the spindle drive.

hey wildcat, i'm not using a vfd. i found a baldor motor that was 56c design and built an adapter plate to mount it on top of the IH mill. this motor is a 3450 rpm 220 volt single phase motor. i really like the upper speeds and this mill really needed to come with this speed stock. runner
