Parts suppliers

Hi, I own an IH mill and am researching a CNC conversion. I believe I know what I want to do (I intend to outline this in another post.) but I am new to this and am having trouble finding suppliers of parts.

In particular:

I want to buy angular contact bearings pairs (SKF 7203 BECBM). I have searched the net but have not come upon a supplier. I looked at MSC and they don't seem stock them.

In addition, I am looking for a supplier of 3/4" rolled ballscrews and nuts. I check with IH and they supply them but Arron is on vacation until the end of the month. The big guys like Rockford send me off to their dealars and I get little satisfaction out of the two I called.

Any suggestions?

Look in your yellow pages under bearings.
McMaster-Carr has the screws and nuts, might have the bearings too

Hi,

I hated to post such a trivial question - I have rolled my eyes at posts such as these myself - but living up here in the north country the yellow pages don't yield many results. I usually lurk and search the archives endlessly until I find a significant tidbit. I conduct most of my business via Internet and UPS. Simple tasks such as deciphering the short hand language on the forum and finding a source of materials and parts can be daunting/frustrating for those of us (I am an artist by trade.) who are new to machining and the like.

I will try my local auto parts store for the SKF 7203 bearings. I just wanted to get some sense of their cost to give me some perspective on the cost of ready-made vs homemade mounts.

I know about McMaster-Carr and have look at their ballscrew offering but again I wanted to get some more input - and I don't know who their supplier is. Their screws are .004/ft and I was looking for a screw with a bit better accuracy.

I put a call into a company called Motion Industries. They are a big outfit with an office in NH. They responded with a linear motion tech. Gene was extremely helpful despite the fact that I made it clear I was a small fish. I have some theoretical understanding of the subject told him I wanted to carry out the retrofit of the IH myself. I told him what I wanted to buy. He diligently filled me in on accuracy stuff such as backlash and all the pitfalls of "doing it yourself" activities concerning turning the screws and support bearings. All good information. He ended by forwarding me a "fat" catalogue so I can make an informed decision when I buy. They seem to favor Nook. They also lean toward buying a pre-assembled system - screw/nut/support. I will do my home work and ask for a quote but I suspect that cost will be beyond my means. I hate to make frivolous requests; never to be acted upon. Anyway, I want the experience. I have a friend who is a very experienced machinist to give me a hand.

If you're after bearings, check out www.vxb.com they have a huge range of bearings and are excellent on delivery.

I've ordered angular contact bearings and normal ball bearings through them before, ordered on the Monday, received them the same Friday, and I'm in Australia.
