    What about Mike?

Anyone else see the new employee on IH's website? Looks to be a winner to me. Looks like they took all of the best qualities of a good CNC mill and crammed them into their new little toy. Some things I really like are the 3 HP spindle, encoded servos and geckos (I'm assuming) with lots of continuous cutting force, integrated flood/spindle coolant, belt drive, and of course the large travel - especially for a "benchtop" mill. Some of the things I'm not quire sure about yet are the 6k RPM spindle (would like to see it up in the 10k area if not faster) and the 30 taper spindle (R8 would have been nice, although I'm becoming more fond of the Tormach style quick change system). 30 taper would be nice for future ATC capabilities though. Anyone have any thoughts/opinions/concerns with Mike so far? Anyone know of an estimated price on him?

So "Mike" is their normal square column mill presumably with stronger servos (hence the better rates), a belt drive conversion on the gear drive, a bigger 3hp motor, and a new spindle that takes a 30 taper quick change spindle.

It does sound like they've been hard at work souping up that mill.

    Best,

    BW

I wonder what a 3 hp. 10,000 + rpm spindle would cost. Solid gold limit switches would be nice to.

Looked at the IH home page. Can't find any reference to a new machine. Can you be more explicit. What do you mean by front page (do you mean home page) what is the link called.

    regards

Yeah, I guess the 10k spindle is really pushing it. :P
